Background
.....so basically, in a nutshell, Yusuke was a delinquent. Skipped school, beat up people, blah blah blah. Then he was hit by a car saving a little kid and became an hero. But not really, since lol, the afterlife didn't have any room for him since he totally went OOC by doing that and they didn't expect him to be dead so soon. Soooo insert a bunch of helping people out as a ghost stuff here, and then tada~, they brought him back /o/ But not only did he get his life back, but he also gained some nifty new powers as well. So then the leader of the Spirit World decides to make him their new Spirit Detective (a.k.a Spirit World's personal human bitch for tracking down bad guys that they're too lazy to take care of themselves) in return for reviving him.
INSERT A BUNCH OF STORY ARCS AND ASS KICKING AND POWER-UPS AND NINETY-SOMETHING EPISODES HERE
During Yusuke's ultimate case (fighting against the totally gay and totally crazy Sensui, the guy who had the Spirit Detective job before Yusuke), Yusuke figures "lol okay this guy's too strong so I'M GONNA BECOME AN HERO AGAIN TO HELP MY FRIENDS POWER UP :B". And so Yusuke dies. AGAIN. But then it turns out that Yusuke's actually a half-demon and that helps revive him since blahblahblah waiting for the right time and place, but in short, PLOT DEVICE SO THE MAIN CHARACTER CAN LIVE >:||
So then Yusuke goes to kick Sensui's ass. But hurrrrr, STILL not strong enough, so his demon ancestor that's responsible for his demon half goes "YOU FAIL" in his head and possesses him and kills Sensui. :< And then Yusuke goes back to normal and promptly bitches over the fact that he wasn't in control of that fight and it wasn't fair and some other stuff like that. The Spirit World realizes "OSHI HE'S TOO DANGEROUS FOR OUR REALM" and fire him from the Spirit Detective job and send people out to kill him. But then after running into some henchmen of his ancestral demon pops and finding out that he's a king of the Demon World and going to die soon because he's being all "lol anorexic no humans eating plz", Yusuke decides to go to the Demon World and find out answers about himself from the source. Oh, and totally kick his great-great-granddaddy's ass, because YOU DON'T MESS WITH YUSUKE'S FIGHTS UNLESS HE SAYS IT'S OKAY, MAN =(
But then the portal that was supposed to take him there ended up taking him to the Island instead :B So huuuuur, not a very happy camper about that.
Personality
If there are a few good words to sum up Yusuke Urameshi, it's brash, loud, crude, impatient, reckless and violent. He isn't your stereotypical hero who is full of good morals. Oooooh no, Yusuke is chock full of flaws. He's lazy, and absoulutely hates being ordered around, so alot of times when Koenma gives Yusuke a case, he ends up griping about it for a while until Botan makes him get to it. He's pretty cocky as well, believing that he doesn't have to know much about his opponent because he thinks they won't be much of a match against him anyway. He has a very witty and sarcastic tongue (he has some of THE best lines in the series, seriously), and if he thinks you or a certain situation is stupid, he won't hesitate to let you know. He loves to tease his friends and rivals, so he's always calling them nicknames or insulting them in some way. H-He has a weird way of showing his affection to them, 'kay? He can become pretty immature when it comes to arguments, sometimes acting like a stubborn brat when he doesn't want to do something or doing his own thing when he's pissed. However, despite all of this, he's actually a decent person. Deep down inside, he has a good heart and a strong sense of justice, and it's not really that hard to see once you get past his Mr. Tough Guy exterior. Yusuke has the shonen-protagonist habit of inadvertently converting former rivals and enemies into BFFs, as in the case with Kuwabara, Hiei, Kurama, Jin, and many others. He can sense when someone is really good, or just plain bad, probably because he's the same way. He also has unbridled enthusiasm when it comes to things he likes, so if he's charged up about something, you better watch out because the Yusuke-train will run you over if you're not too careful. Because of his experience with death first time around, Yusuke deeply respects and cares for his friends and family, and if you mess with them or harm them in anyway, he'll give no second thought to introducing his fist with your face. Yusuke+fighting=OTP TO THE MAX. It doesn't matter if it's a friendly sparring match, a scuffle between a rival, or an epic life-or-death brawl; if it involves duking it out with someone, he'll be there. Of course, while he doesn't discriminate between opponents (during the Yukina arc, he had no issues going against seemingly female fighter, because "she's a fighter and she wants to fight!"), he won't pick a fight someone who's drastically weaker than him, unless they really, REALLY piss him off.

Abilities
ALSO COPYPASTA'D FROM MY LJ. I AM LAZY ZSFHKDFXGHJZDFGZDF ANYWAY:
Spirit Gun- Main attack which he focuses his energy into his right index finger and fires a shot of pure spirit power. The shots can range from little to freaking huge; it all depends on how much damage he wants to cause, or how mad he is.
Shotgun- Variation of the Spirit Gun, which he gathers energy in his fist as opposed to his finger, and releases it in multiple blasts.
Spirit Light Bullet<- Another variation, which is pretty much like the Shotgun, but with one blast.
Spirit Wave- He gathers all of his energy into his body and uses it to either heal himself or completely own an opponent. It's hard for him to control, so he doesn't do it often :<
Plus, he can totally kick the crap out of you with a punch or a kick, since his martial arts and strength are nothing to be sneezed at. AND JESUS CHRIST HIS SPEED AND STAMINA. Put him on a bike, and he'll make Louis Armstrong look like a geezer, NO LIE.
Spirit Beast
To backtrack, when Yusuke was dead first time around, he got this egg that would feed off of his spirit energy and would lead him back to the living world once hatched. However.....he threw it in a fire to save his BFF/kinda-sorta love interest Keiko, so lol DIFFERENT MEANS HAD TO BE TAKEN AFTER THAT. But Koenma kept it for safe keeping and returned the egg to Yusuke later on in the series. He explained that the creature inside would be a reflection of how Yusuke really was, soul-wise, not personality-wise. It would feel what he felt, and pretty much be Yusuke's other half. So then it hatched. It was a blue Furby thing. People laughed. And laughed some more. Even Yukina laughed at him, which was saying alot since she's the nicest one too ;_;
Naturally, this caused Yusuke to HAET Puu at first, but after Puu helped him out during this trial thing Genkai put him through, he gained a little more respect for his cuddly other half. And then, of course, Puu transformed into that kick-ass phoenix form after Yusuke went through his demon transformation, and that made Yusuke like him ALOT more ;w;
Relationships
Hiei
Island-wise, they've gotten into numerous crazy situations with one another, including spin-the-bottle first week in which Yusuke is repressing kthx, body-swapping, EPIC SNOWBALL BATTLE!!11 (which had Hiei turning into a cat |D;) and of course, pushing him into a drink-off -w- Despite their bickering, Yusuke really does value Hiei and his friendship though~ AND GDIT MAN TELL YUKINA YOU TWO ARE RELATED SO YOU CAN STOP STALKING HER YOU WEIRDO.
Yukina
They didn't have much of a spoken interaction in the canon, but Yusuke did save her from Tarukane, SO HE IS KINDA IMPORTANT TO HER. Ever since coming to island, he's gotten to talk to Yukina ALOT more, and has come to realize she's a sweet, but strong, little cookie in her own right. He's caught her up with everything back home, and decided to act as temporary older-brother figure for now until a) island gets a Kuwabara or b) HIEI 'FESSES THE FUCK UP TO HER :||| T-Though lol, after Yukina admitted to him that she asked Hiei if they were related and he denied it, Yusuke went SCREW THIS and spilled the beans, oops .x. He's been keeping an eye out on her to make sure she isn't passing out due to heatstroke/healing the entire island/whatever, and probably will fuck anyone that tries to mess with her up :(
...plus, she gave him a hug when he was having an emo-fit over Makoto's death, which earns her 1000000+ points because AWWWW YUKINA ;__;
Mirai Trunks Briefs
GOD STOP STANDING IN MY DOORWAY IN YOUR UNDERWEAR--I MEAN-- WASSUP BFF-RIVAL-THINGIE *_* Met him on his first day on the island, and DAMN, HE IS AWESOME. Tried to break down the Island barrier together, and epically failed in the process, but hey, good times, good times~ He definitely respects Trunks' cool head in most situations, and though he's only heard bits and pieces of it, seriously hopes that Trunks can change his future, and, y'know, not have everyone bad-ended. HE ALSO LOVES THAT HE IS STRONG AND WILLING (actually, more like eager) TO FIGHT HIM *-* Which is always A+++~ He does get annoyed with how naive he can be sometimes (DUDE STOP BEING SUCH A VIRGIN WHEN IT COMES TO VOYEURING) and part of him still hasn't forgiven him for what his younger self accidentally did to Makoto that one time 8( Plus there was that not!rivalry going on with him over her too but that's in the past since he WON FUCK YES But aside from that, Trunks is definitely a person here that he would go all out for, in battle and in friendship :>

Y HALO THAR WAIFU *A* Haha, what started as a simple encounter when he and Trunks were taking on the barrier lead to BFF-dom whiiiiich...eventually turned to datage ;w; Of course, Makoto liked him from the very beginning, but Yusuke was just too dense and confused and RETARDED and took BEING HANDCUFFED TOGETHER TO A MAGICAL BOAT to get him to 'fess up to any feelings |Da He really does admire how strong she is, physically and emotionally, and actually feels like she can understand him, being in the "misunderstood delinquent" boat herself for a bit. Of course, she frustrates him alot of the time because WOMAN STOP BEING SO HEADSTRONG GDIT Dx T-Though he does like sum tsundere brunettes, BUT HE WON'T GO ADMITTING THAT. He does feel guilty deep down in regards to the dating situation, because OTL Keiko and such, but...he really does care about Makoto to PIECES (especially after the whole "kamikazing self to stop the moon" thing, since that really fucked with his head and he started realizing how much he cared about her), and damn it all, he'll worry about what he'll do about both of them when the time comes ;__;
He also approves very muchly of her underwear choices and talent :|b ESPECIALLY HER TALENT.

Buuuuuuut even though he argues with him and bugs him and stuff, he rather likes him alot, since Kyo reminds him a bit of himself. Plus, the FOY thing Kyo went through made him realize that there was more to Kyo than meets the eye, so....it's a shonen-retardy relationship, okay?

DOOOOOOLLLIEEEE~~ They met the first day he arrived, and BAD DOLLIE, NO BENDING OF MY FINGERS DX He does get a little miffed by her attitude sometimes, but there's an air to her that sort of reminds him of Kurama, so he doesn't mind chilling with her every so often, talking and stuff, and maybe actually reading stuff they jacked from the library *o* He feels a bit affectionate towards her sometimes when she's feeling meloncholy (since she stuck by him when he was feeling emo dawwww), and kinda got a little freaked when she said she wanted to wind-down and go into an eternal slumber (h-he even offered to be her new medium if she decided to cut ties with Jun, awwwww). He enjoys teasing her every so often, but has learned to KEEP HIS HANDS TO HIMSELF because he's found out the hard way that Shinku's a meeeeeean mofo when she wants to be D: Thinks the whole Alice Game is pretty stupid though :|||

On one hand, she'd SUPER OLD and supposedly has HAXXXX powers and such, but on the other....w-why did you jack that poor maid of her outfit D: Her perky, bubbly side reminds him of Botan a little, so it's something he's used to, but......OTL ARC YOU ARE SUCH A KID. HELLO THERE COMRADE *A* Seriously, though, Ikki's like his long lost retarded twin or something (or triplet, counting Jin~~) He is INCREDIBLE fun to dweeb out with, be it kicking out invaders in the Inn, spying on the AG girls' sleepover, or having ~EPIC BATTORUS~ of territory on the roof during high school day /o/ He's given Ikki his full support for the Gram Scale tournament, and they promised each other to drop in on their respective worlds if they ever get back home, awwww ;w; AND BEING HUT NEIGHBORS HELPS ALOT \o/ He definitely wants to see Ikki's A-Ts in action alot more, after hearing what they could do *-*
